Ingredients
🥧 Pie Filling
- 1 baked pie crust (9-inch)
- 1 cup sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- ¼ tsp salt
- 3 cups whole milk 🥛

- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

Option 1: Whipped Cream
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
Option 2: Meringue
- 3 egg whites
- ¼ tsp cream of tartar
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Make the Chocolate Filling
- In a saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt.
- Gradually add milk, whisking until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thick.
2. Temper the Eggs
- In a bowl, whisk egg yolks.
- Slowly add a bit of hot mixture into yolks (to warm them).
- Pour back into saucepan and cook 2–3 more minutes until thick and creamy.
3. Finish the Filling
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in butter and vanilla.
- Pour into baked pie crust.
4. Add Topping
👉 Whipped Cream
- Beat cream, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy.
- Spread over cooled pie.
👉 OR Meringue
- Beat egg whites + cream of tartar until soft peaks.
- Gradually add sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Spread over hot pie and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 10–15 minutes until golden.
5. Chill
- Let pie cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours before slicing.
