1. Chest Pain or Discomfort

This is probably the most well-known sign, although it doesn’t always present itself as we expect. Have you ever felt an uncomfortable pressure in your chest, as if someone were squeezing you? Heart   pain can manifest in different ways:

  • Feeling of oppression or heaviness
  • Heartburn similar to acid reflux
  • Sharp pain that comes and goes

When should you worry?  If the pain persists for more than a few minutes or recurs frequently, it’s time to consult a doctor. At our Clinical Center 2000, we evaluate each case individually because we know that every person is unique.

2. Difficulty breathing for no apparent reason

Have you found yourself breathless after climbing stairs you used to climb without a problem? Shortness of breath can be an early sign of heart problems  . This difficulty breathing can occur:

  • During everyday activities
  • While lying down
  • During the night, interrupting sleep

Many of our patients tell us, “I thought I was just out of shape.” However, when the heart doesn’t pump efficiently, the lungs can be affected.

3. Extreme and Unexplained Fatigue

Do you feel exhausted after performing tasks you used to do with ease? Cardiac fatigue is different from regular tiredness. It’s that feeling that your energy has vanished for no apparent reason. This fatigue is characterized by:

  • Sudden appearance

  • It interferes with daily activities.

Our cardiology specialists at the Clinical Center 2000 have observed that this sign is especially common in women, although it can affect anyone.

4. Frequent Dizziness and Fainting

Have you experienced sudden dizziness or a feeling of faintness? When the heart can’t pump blood efficiently, the brain may not receive enough oxygen. Cardiac dizziness often:

  • Appear during exercise
  • Worsens when changing position
  • Accompanied by cold sweats

It’s important to distinguish these dizzy spells from others caused by inner ear problems or low blood pressure. Therefore, a professional medical evaluation is essential.

5. Swelling in legs, ankles or feet

Have you noticed your shoes feeling tighter at the end of the day? Fluid retention can be a sign that your heart isn’t working properly. This cardiac swelling has specific characteristics:

  • It gets worse towards the end of the day
  • It leaves a mark when pressed with a finger.
  • It can extend down to the calves

At our medical center in Getafe, we perform comprehensive evaluations to determine if this swelling has a cardiac origin or is due to other causes.
